Grant and Sponsorships
Scholar Rock is proud to support grants and sponsorships from patient and provider communities that advance our efforts in research, education, advocacy, and community outreach in areas of unmet need that are aligned with Scholar Rock’s therapeutic areas of interest. Read below for more information on the types of programs we support.
Educational Grants
These are funds provided to support third-party educational initiatives, whether accredited or non-accredited, that aim to enhance the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals. Eligible activities may include courses, programs, or events focused on clinical education. Non-accredited programs must still meet the same high standards as accredited ones. We accept grant requests for programs that provide meaningful education within our therapeutic areas of interest.
Sponsorships
Scholar Rock provides sponsorship support for events, projects, or programs that offer tangible business benefits and are intended to educate patients, caregivers, scientists, or healthcare professionals. Examples of sponsorship requests may include corporate memberships, advertising opportunities, exhibit booths, or satellite symposium slots.
Areas of Interest

Investigator-Initiated Studies
At Scholar Rock, we are dedicated to expanding scientific knowledge and improving patient care through meaningful connectivity with the research community. An investigator-initiated study (IIS) is research led by an independent third-party investigator or institution that assumes full responsibility for the design, conduct, regulatory compliance, and oversight of the study. These studies may be interventional or observational in nature. Our IIS program supports independent research efforts that align with our therapeutic focus areas and scientific objectives.
Overview
The Scholar Rock IIS program supports external investigators seeking to explore novel clinical or scientific questions that align with our therapeutic areas of interest. Support may include 1) funding, 2) drug or other biologically active agent, or 3) access to company data where appropriate.
Areas of Interest
We consider proposals that address key questions in the following areas:
Neuromuscular disease
Spinal muscular atrophy
IIS Submission Process
Scholar Rock is committed to supporting independent research that advances scientific knowledge and improves patient care.
Submission Process
The submission process consists of two key steps:
Step 1: Concept Submission
Submit a brief study concept that includes:
- A concise study rationale and design
- A description of the type of support requested (e.g., funding, drug supply)
- An estimated overall budget (if funding is requested)
Step 2: Full Proposal
If the concept is selected for further consideration, you will be invited to submit a full proposal, including:
- Detailed study protocol
- Comprehensive budget
- Additional supporting documents as applicable
Following a thorough review by the IIS Review Committee, you will be notified of the final decision via email.
To submit a proposal, please send an email to [email protected]

Expanded Access
Scholar Rock is committed to creating new possibilities for people living with serious diseases. As we advance multiple investigational treatments through clinical development, our goal is to provide timely and appropriate access to medicines with life-changing potential.
Aligned with this mission, we conduct clinical trials to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of investigational medicines. If demonstrated, these data will help us obtain approvals from regulatory authorities which are required before medicines can be made widely available to patients.
However, in certain cases where a patient with a serious or immediately life-threatening disease or condition is ineligible for a clinical trial and has no comparable or satisfactory alternative treatment options, Scholar Rock may provide pre-approval access to an investigational treatment, outside of a clinical trial.
Expanded access treatment can only be provided under limited circumstances, meaning that Scholar Rock will not be able to fulfill all requests. Requests for expanded access to investigational treatments must be made by a qualified physician on the patient’s behalf.
Scholar Rock has an active Expanded Access Program (EAP) in the United States for our investigational product, apitegromab, for the treatment of eligible patients with SMA (NCT06877689). More information about this program can be found here.
For additional information about Scholar Rock’s clinical trials and EAP, contact our Medical Information team at [email protected] or 1-855-MED-SRRK.
