Scholar Rock was founded on pioneering science from researchers at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital. Since then, we have focused every day on expanding this research for people living with serious diseases.
We work in areas where the biological role of disease is understood but often not addressed. We have developed a revolutionary way to selectively target protein growth factors before they are activated in the body. By taking this unique approach, we believe our investigational medicines have the potential to overcome challenges experienced with traditional therapeutic approaches that lacked selectivity to certain complex diseases.

What’s in a Name?
Our company is named after naturally occurring geologic formations, called scholar rocks. These rocks have been collected over centuries for their unusual patterns of wear and erosion, which are believed to spark deep insights. Each scholar rock is distinctive, and their visual resemblance to protein structures is a physical reminder of our scientific approach—and a symbol of the patients we aim to serve.
